Emily Dawn Long Unveils 'Southern Cleavage' Collection at New York Fashion Week

Emily Dawn Long made a striking debut at New York Fashion Week, showcasing her Spring 2027 collection at Bridges, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Chinatown. Guests were treated to refreshing lemonade and branded popcorn while they watched her short film, “The Crack of Dawn,” blending fashion with cinematic flair.

In speaking with Fashionista, Long emphasized her goal of uniting her community through this event while reflecting her passion for film. “I do men’s and women’s wear, so it’s a good opportunity to get my community around to celebrate,” she said. The film, which takes the form of an unconventional heist, features models playing “unqualified thieves,” including Meadow Walker and Sydney Lemmon, each adorned in Long’s latest designs.

Long describes her process as merging costume design with character development, stating, “It was really fun to work on because while I was building the collection, I was simultaneously character building.” The collection introduces a fresh concept dubbed “southern cleavage,” which accentuates lower backs instead of the bust, presenting a unique take on sensuality in fashion.

Despite not having established a traditional presence at NYFW previously, Long’s brand has gained traction. Since opening her appointment-only showroom in 2025, she has developed a reputation for her distinctive offerings—viral vintage T-shirts, playful accessories, and vibrant cocktail dresses. Now, she’s a finalist for the 2026 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, which typically encourages designers to showcase collections at September events. Long is adapting to this expectation with around 12 looks, including a playful vintage-inspired tee and a stunning metallic gown.

“The brand itself hasn’t changed based on any new attention from the industry establishment, but it’s clearly grown,” Long remarked. She credits her expanding community, stating, “Everyone that helped me make this and everyone that was in the film is a friend and a homie. I’m still making clothes for them.” Her pieces convey versatility, mixing high-fashion appeal with accessibility—for instance, the same dress could fit an Oscar invitation or suit a casual outing.

Two notable additions for Spring 2027 include a playful new print and the introduction of shoes—a strategic move aimed at diversifying her offerings. Long noted her growth isn’t limited to New York; her brand is actively reaching international markets, regularly shipping to L.A., Japan, Australia, and London. “I sell to L.A., Japan, Australia and London every single day, multiple times a day. So it’s getting out there,” she shared.

In an exciting new venture, Long is collaborating with the owner of Kansas City boutique Mergers on a fresh retail concept set to launch in October. Interestingly, many customers often misconstrue her brand as being based in L.A., given its aesthetic. “The girls in L.A. are very excited for us to get over there,” she added, highlighting the anticipated demand.
