Jane Wade's Spring 2027 Collection Embraces Nature with a Riverbed Theme

Jane Wade is continuing her exploration of nature for Spring 2027, building on her previous collection that presented a corporate-inspired outdoor aesthetic. This time around, her theme is “The Riverbed,” which draws inspiration from water and its surrounding landscapes.

“Last season, we were hiking the Great Mount expedition to ‘The Summit,’ and this season, that glacial melt is trickling off, running down through waterfall and into the creek for ‘The Riverbed,’” Wade shared during an interview at her studio in Brooklyn, just ahead of her runway event.

Collection Highlights

The new collection features a vibrant blend of nature-infused design details, focusing primarily on aquatic and amphibious motifs. Wade aims to evoke the relaxed spirit of spending a day by the river with friends. “I really wanted it to feel like spending the day at the river in the sun with your friends,” she remarked.

To achieve this, Wade combines traditional office fabrics with more technical materials such as nylon and ripstop, thereby experimenting with finishes and treatments typical of sportswear. Her runway show at Pier 64 showcased an emphasis on outdoorsy accessories like backpacking gear and branded water bottles, enhanced by playful gingham prints. Some models even went barefoot, reinforcing the collection’s relaxed, outdoor vibe.

Fashion Meets Function

Reflecting her upbringing in the Pacific Northwest, Wade incorporated elements like cargo pants, funnel-neck jackets, and a tent-like umbrella, a whimsical accessory for the modern, sun-loving individual. Yet, she firmly retains her brand’s workwear roots, featuring classic styles such as button-up tops and loose trousers alongside more structured silhouettes.

“I think this season, especially spring, is a really fun time to leave the office. Touching grass is a big theme of what we’re talking about,” Wade expressed, highlighting her vision for a casual yet stylish outing attire.

Design Innovations

One of the standout pieces from the collection is a striking strapless dress with an alligator-print design. Though it captures the texture of real alligator skin, the innovative technique employed by Wade uses embossed cowhide, subject to three passes of screen printing to achieve an impressive aquatic sheen. “It feels like a really fun place when you arrive creatively where you feel like people can identify what your branding looks like based on your imagery and color treatment,” she noted, emphasizing her commitment to evolving her brand’s identity.

The enthusiasm for experimentation is palpable as Wade steps into this new season. “Now that I feel we’ve really built that foundation for the brand, now it’s a really fun time to play and experiment with different layers of new treatments,” she said, indicating her excitement about introducing a fresh perspective into her established brand codes.
